Years ago, as a freshman at Kearney State College in Nebraska, I had hoped to become a student of Art. However, two professors, perhaps irritated by my resistance to following directions, told me that my art was never going to be strong enough. Thus, I became a poet and English major, which was truly the better choice. Nonetheless, I have always harbored a desire to create visual art, in line drawings or paintings.
