Events - a brief scrapbook

Mark Sanders has read from his creative work, provided guest lectures, and presented scholarship in numerous locations since 1977, including Nebraska, Missouri, Michigan, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Idaho, Washington, and Montana; he has made well over 100 readings .  If you'd like to have him visit your community or campus, please notify him at sandersme1@sfasu.edu.

October 4, 2019, I received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  Behind me is Dr. Richard Jussel, who was one of my professors when I worked on my Masters degree; he introduced me to those who attended the event.  Following the ceremony, I gave a poetry reading in the Department of English.

Mark Sanders returns to his home town, Ord, Nebraska, to finalize his reading tour; this event takes place at Scratchtown Brewery (http://scratchtown.beer/).

Sanders grew up in Ord and graduated high school there in the early-70s; he launched his small concern for poetry, Sandhills Press, from Ord in 1979.  He gave his very first poetry reading in Ord in 1977 for members of a local arts group, and, after hundreds of readings elsewhere, this return will mark his second reading in his home town.  Earlier in the day, he will visit English classes at the Ord High School.

Receiving the Mildred Bennett Award in November 2007 from the Nebraska Center for the Book, Lincoln, Nebraska.
During my tenure as a professor at Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho, the creative writing faculty sponsored weekly open-mic readings at a local establishment called Hogan's, across the Snake River in Clarkston, Washington.  Creative writing students and faculty alike read from their work and created a thriving writer's community; in a five-year period more than 100 readings were presented.  Creative Writing faculty--Claire Davis, William Johnson, and I--also presented readings on campus annually; this photograph is from circa 2007.
